<p>MAVIG has used its decades of experience in X-ray protection to further minimize harmful scattered radiation. Two uniquely formed, protective drapes have been designed to optimally protect against radiation emitting from the patient’s body during both femoral and lateral access procedures.</p>

<p>Our covers have been ergonomically formed to provide excellent protection while being as compact as possible for patient comfort. Special attention has also been made to their application, such as the special cut-out of the femoral cover for the femoral port, and the gentle slope of the right side of both covers for unobstructed imaging.</p>
<p>Combined with our dedicated sterile covers, the protective drapes can be placed on top of the sterile patient drape. This allows for quick placement or removal, as well as a constant reference to the cover’s position in regards to the image field. The sterile covers also provide an economic and environmental advantage to common disposable drapes.</p>

<p>The MAVIG ST-ER drape has been developed for the protection of medical staff by minimizing the scatter radiation emitted by the patient’s body. The radiation protection cover, positioned on the patient’s body, stops the majority of the scattered radiation emerging from the patient’s body towards the medical staff.</p>

<p>A new study conducted by MAVIG has shown, that the scattered radiation coming out of the patient’s body leads to a high exposure to the doctor during urology interventions.</p>
<p>Effective radiation protection has to take into account the distinctive features of procedures carried out in the lithotomy position. The source of the radiation is in most cases above the table. This also adds to the high exposure rate of the doctor, especially for their head which is usually unprotected.</p>
<p>Furthermore, common radiation protective shields can be seldomly used due to the special positioning of the patient and the confined space it creates. MAVIG used this as an opportunity to develop a new shield optimized to these specific requirements.</p>

<p>The most serious problem in the application of radiation protection up till now has been the release of radiation from below. This results from the scattered radiation originating in the patient volume radiographed, a considerable proportion of which travels through the patient’s body tissue.</p>
<p>The flexible panel curtain lays perfectly flush to the patient’s body when the protective shield is positioned and stops a significant proportion of the scattered radiation coming from the patient’s body. At the same time, the gap between the shield and the surface of the patient‘s body is closed. Measurements and simulations have shown that this can reduce the dose rate where the examiner stands by up to 85%. The effect where the assistant stands is similarly high. Radiation protection covers, “drapes”, that are positioned on the patient extend the protection of the curtain. The shape of each drape is designed specifically for its intended purpose: With a cut-out for femoral puncture and without a separate cut-out for radial puncture. Combined with our dedicated sterile covers, the protective drapes can be placed on top of the sterile patient drape. This allows for quick placement or removal, as well as a constant reference to the cover’s position in regard to the image field. The sterile covers also provide an economic and environmental advantage to common disposable drapes.</p>
